To celebrate the BBC DVD release of The Mind Robber on 7th March 2005, Glasgow Who, The Glasgow Doctor Who Society, held an evening with “the other Jamie,” Hamish Wilson.
Hamish attends very few of these type of events and the only other signing Hamish arranged for this release was at 10th Planet, London. We were in the privileged position of being able to keep Hamish to ourselves for considerably longer per person in attendance so this was quite literally a unique experience!
The event was held upstairs at Dow's Bar on Dundas Street, which is right beside Glasgow Queen Street Station as you head towards Buchanan Street Underground. Despite a few teething troubles (the venue losing all record of the booking nearly caused the organiser a fatal coronary!) the event ran smoothly from 7:30PM until 10:30PM on the evening of 12th March 2005.
Attendance for the event was strictly limited to 30 people to offer as unique an experience as possible.
During the course of the evening, Hamish entertained everyone present with a variety of anecdotes and remembrances from a long and varied career in theatre, television and radio, demonstrating a great talent for accents and storytelling.
The charity auction raised over £100 for our nominated charity with all profits from this event donated to the Foundation for the Study of Infant Death.
Merchandise was available for sale throughout the evening, courtesy of Voga, a phenomenal specialist merchandiser
based at 22 Leven Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9LJ.
Glasgow Who would like to thank Kenny Smith and, of course, Hamish Wilson for making this event possible.
The flyer used to publicise this event is pictured below.
